BROADRAKE – 2 Day Spoon Carving WorkshopBroadrake | Chapel-le-Dale Ingleton | LA6 3AX
April 11 @ 9:45 am - April 12 @ 4:00 pm
We first ran this workshop in 2018 over both one and two days; the two days worked best with more opportunity to embed the basic axe and knife skills taught on the first day with more hands on experience on the second day under Steve’s watchful eye.
Steve Tomlin will guide you safely, step-by-step, through the traditional skills of this increasingly popular craft. From a fresh greenwood log, axe work is used to split the log and then to axe out the basic shapes and forms. Two different knives and different carving techniques are then mastered to create a useful kitchen stirring utensil on the first day. On the second day you will learn how to axe out ‘butter spreader’ shapes, following on with knife work to reinforce the different knife cuts. More axe techniques are then taught create an eating spoon with a deeper bowl and a more detailed handle shape.
All materials and tools are provided. Please wear layers of old warm clothing and sturdy footwear. All refreshments and lunches both days are included in the price.
