BROADRAKE – WIllow CurlewsBroadrake | Chapel-le-Dale Ingleton | LA6 3AX
June 13 @ 9:45 am - 4:30 pm
This is probably our most popular willow workshop where you will create a sculpture of the Yorkshire Dales iconic bird, the Curlew. We have curlews breeding around Broadrake and they should be calling and flying overhead when this workshop is running in June 2019.
Tutor Phil Bradley lives in NW Cumbria where he grows his own sustainable willow for basketry, garden items as well as bird & animal sculptures, all popular workshop topics.
Phil will guide the group through all the processes step by step to make sure that everyone masters skills to create a 3D framework of the curlew’s body. He will teach the free curved weaving needed to fill in the framework and then how to add in the neck and head, and finally the distinctive curved beak. His gentle humour and excellent teaching style will make sure that everyone successfully creates their very own Curlew to add into a garden border. They look lovely set into long meadow grasses; they also look great inside the home if you want to bring it in for the winter months.
The organic willow, all refreshments and lunch is included in the price and all the tools required will be provided.
Broadrake is set in a stunning landscape in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with views of Ingleborough, Whernside and Ribblehead Viaduct.
