As part of this Dark
Skies Festival, Cosmos
Planetarium will pop-up in
the spectacular setting of
Ripon Cathedral. The planetarium dome is a
fully digital, 360° immersive cinematic theatre
Sessions will be
running throughout the day
at 10am, 11am, 12noon,
1pm and 2pm. Shows last approximately 30 – 45 mins.
Session 1: ‘We Are Aliens; The Search for
Extra Terrestrial Life’ – 10am, 12noon, 2pm:
ET call home! Learn about extreme lifeforms
on Earth and the possibility of life elsewhere
in the universe. Followed by a guide to what’s
visible in the night sky during the Dark Skies
Session 2: ‘Tim Peake; Space Station Tour’ –
11am, 1pm: We start with a look at the night
sky, learn how to navigate using the stars
and how to find planets. Then BLAST OFF to
the International Space Station to learn how
astronauts live and work in space as we tour
the station and the solar system beyond.
This awe-inspiring experience is fun,
educational and suitable for all ages. You can
also be transported into space with virtual
reality headsets, children can try on astronaut
costumes and take a selfie with Tim Peake
(cut out – not the real one!)
