Doug Scott – A Crawl Down the OgreGiggleswick School | Giggleswick | BD24 0DE
March 13 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
In an epic tale of hard climbing and survival that has now become part of mountaineering folklore, A Crawl Down the Ogre celebrates the 40th anniversary of Doug Scott’s legendary crawl back down Pakistan’s infamous ‘Ogre’ after a disastrous abseil just below the summit left him dangling on the end of the rope with both legs broken just above the ankle.
Doug and Chris Bonnington had just successfully climbed the mountain recognised as one of the most difficult in the world to climb, and it would be another 24 years of yearly attempts before the Ogre was conquered again. Following a torturous descent in storm conditions endured over many days, Doug, and an also injured and sick Chris Bonnington, were finally rescued.
Their rescue was in large part achieved by the selfless help of two fellow climbers, Clive Rowland and Mo Anthoine, and selfless locals, which spurred Doug on to start up projects that help the indigenous people of the area live a better standard of life.
