Explore the Abandoned DaleMeet at the Ravenseat turnoff from the B6270 west of Keld | |
July 13 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm
Beyond Swaledale – almost, one might say, beyond reach – Great Sled Dale was once home to lead & copper mining. It has one of the most ambitious field enclosures in Swaledale, but except for rough grazing, Great Sled Dale hasn’t been farmed for over 50 years.
This walk, new for 2019, travels the length of Great Sled Dale. Using a mixture of tracks, trods, and open moor, we will visit the field enclosures and mines. The beck needs to be forded on many occasions; requiring good balance or wet feet, or both if there has been recent rainfall.
