Immersion in Incidental Landscapes – Jonathan MiddlemissFarfield Mill | Garsdale Road | LA10 5LW
May 10 @ 10:30 am - July 7 @ 5:00 pm
I am an artist in ceramics and painting, originally from Nidderdale. My career in ceramics has led to work being in public international collections and museums, but more recently I have returned to paint the landscape of my childhood.
Many of the experiences from my first thirteen years on our farm have become alive again through re-visiting, painting and meditating in the landscape there. My love is for the sense of intimacy and wonder everywhere; the tactile qualities of stone and wood; the beautiful contrasts of living plants; the stories of fallen trees with broken branches; incidental experiences such as a leaf in the water and the magic of shifting colours at dusk and dawn. I always feel the sensory world of nature as a portal to age old wisdom and the sense of spiritual belonging.
