Malham Cove, Tarn and Gordale Scar. Guided WalkMalham National Park Centre | Malham | BD23 4DA
A full day guided walk a part of a small group of no more than six people plus your friendly, professional guide, to explore the beautiful area around Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. Conditions permitting, the day will include an exciting scramble up Gordale Scar, the walk will also include lovely views of Malham Tarn, and a visit to the famous Malham Cove.
Starting and finishing in the village of Malham, we’ll take paths that lead to Janet’s Foss – a pretty waterfall in a woodland setting. We’ll then move on, and conditions permitting we’ll scramble up the high rocky waterfall called Gordale Scar. A good degree of confidence and agility for scrambling up a steep rocky ascent is required for this. We’ll then follow scenic paths over areas of moorland and through limestone pavement country, until eventually reaching Malham Tarn – a small lake and nature reserve. Following part of the Pennine Way path, we’ll walk across the top of the famous Malham Cove – a huge, curved limestone cliff, and take the steep path down the side of it to view this magnificent geological feature from below.
The walk is about 12 miles/19km with approx 600 metres of ascent. Some of the terrain is rough and stony, and parts could be a little bit muddy and slippery. The scramble up Gordale Scar requires a head for heights and a fair amount of confidence and agility.
Proper hiking boots and outdoor clothing are essential. Full details of the meeting time and place will be provided upon booking. Young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sorry, no dogs.
