Nine Standards Rigg. Guided WalkKirkby Stephen | | CA17 4QN
A full day walk a part of a small group of usually no more than six people plus your guide to explore the countryside, hills and moorland to the east of Kirkby Stephen. This will include a visit the famous Nine Standards Rigg near to the summit of Hartley Fell (662m above sea level).
Nine Standards Rigg takes its name from the line of huge cairns that stand on the edge of the escarpment. The origin of these ‘stone men’ is a complete mystery.
The walk is about 10 miles/16km with approx 620 metres of ascent. The route we’ll be taking passes over some really wild and rough moorland that is pathless in places. It could be wet and boggy if there has been much rain.
Proper hiking boots and outdoor clothing are essential. Young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Sorry, no dogs.
