The Story of Sedbergh

This is a free exhibition by the Sedbergh & District History Society, telling the story of Sedbergh from the earliest times. It also helps celebrate the annual Heritage Open Days which is England’s largest festival of history and culture.

The main exhibition has display panels on various local town topics such as The Town’s Yards, The Cotton and Woollen Mills, Rough Fell Sheep, Common Land and the Strickland Case, The British School, and many others which help explain the foundation and development of the town since the 12th century.

The panels are supplemented by fascinating details of Sedbergh’s Notable People and interesting albums featuring photographs from the Society’s extensive archives of local history.

It can be viewed in Farfield Mill in the room next to the cafe on Floor 1 between Saturday 14th to Sunday 21st September.  The Mill is situated south of the town and accessed from the A684 Garsdale Road.
