January 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
The winter sky sparkles with star clusters and stunning constellations, not to mention satellites and shooting stars scuttling overhead. We’ll have telescopes and binoculars at the ready and take you on a tour of the heavens, where mighty Orion dominates the southern sky. But we’ll start with a colourful beginners’ talk iindoors to set the scene and answer some of those questions you’ve always wanted to ask. Want tips on using that new scope someone bought you for Chirstmas? We’ll try to help. Event goes ahead in all weather and we’ll have mulled wine and hot refreshments for you to enjoy..
The Yorkshire Dales
This is one of the darkest designated landscapes in England, where all the major astronomical delights can be glimpsed, from the Milky Way to the Northern Lights.
Astronomer Richard Darn was part of the team that achieved designation of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park and helped launch Kielder Observatory. He has appeared on BBC Sky at Night and Stargazing Live and has regular BBC radio slots. He also advises the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors national parks on dark sky conservation. For more visit https://darkskiesuk.org
