Join our experienced Dales Volunteers on this short 2.5 mile (3.5km) guided walk and explore the history of Hawes and the village of Gayle. Walking through this lovely market town, discover the origins of Wensleydale cheese, see where the railway once went and follow a section of the Pennine Way. A level 1 YDNPA guided walk. The route takes in some steps, stiles and slight gradients. Please wear outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather and sturdy shoes with good grips.…

Besom Making Demonstration

Join crafts specialist Lorna Singleman for a demonstration in besoms (brooms) making. Besoms are made from the young tops of birch trees bound together and attached to a handle of birch, ash or hazel. Traditional they were used in many aspects of domestic and industrial life, they are still sought after today especially for sweeping leaves or playing Quidditch. Included in museum admission.

Throughout the week of the Cheese Festival you will be able to take part in The Hawes Truckle Trail. Collect a clue map from the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes and follow the clues to get the answer by following the truckles around the beautiful, historic town of Hawes. Searching for the hidden truckles to make a famous word associated with cheese and enter a prize draw to win a traditional Yorkshire delight.
